There’s a massive rivalry game and multiple clashes between state-ranked teams in Week 5 of Section V football.
Aquinas (3-1) hosts McQuaid (4-0) with the Father John Onorato Challenge Trophy on the line. The Knights are ranked No. 14 in the state in Class AA. Monroe (3-1), No. 16 in the state rankings, travels to undefeated No. 5 Canandaigua (4-0).

Football: Section V scores for 2024 season
Terrell Cunningham evaded pressure and flipped a 13-yard touchdown to Styhles McKenzie-Baker for Monroe. Canandaigua leads 14-6.
Drew Williamee threw a 26-yard touchdown to Trey Comella with less than three minutes left in the first half to put Canandaigua ahead 14-0.
Jack Clark scored on fourth-and-goal from the 1-yard line on the first play for the second quarter. Canandaigua is up 7-0 against Monroe.
Messiah Hampton’s 75-yard punt return was negated by a penalty and it was a scoreless first quarter.
Michael Grasso scored on a touchdown run to give Wayne a 7-0 lead over Edison.
McQuaid scored on a 68-yard run and added a 2-point conversion for a 15-9 lead against Aquinas. The Knights have scored 15 straight points since a 9-0 first quarter deficit.
McQuaid got on the board with a special teams score. The Knights blocked a punt and recovered it in the end zone to trim their deficit to 9-7 with 9:43 left in the second quarter.
Aquinas defensive end Quante Gillians got a sack in the end zone for a safety to give Aquinas a 9-0 lead against McQuaid with 7:23 remaining in the first quarter.
Aquinas scored on the first possession of the game against McQuaid. Quarterback Trent Buttles tossed an 82-yard touchdown pass to Derrion Battle for a quick touchdown and 7-0 lead. McQuaid is no stranger to early deficits and big comebacks in its 4-0 start to the season.
