Texas football has championship aspirations after spanking Texas A&M
The Longhorns (11-1, 7-1) held Texas A&M’s offense without a touchdown in the 17-7 win and will meet Georgia in the SEC title game Dec. 7 in Atlanta.
Texas is a game away from earning its first conference title in its first year in the SEC.
All that stands in the Longhorns‘ way is a team — the only team thus far in the 2024 college football season — that beat them earlier in the season. Now, No. 2 Texas (11-1, 7-1 in SEC play) will travel to the SEC championship game in Atlanta to take on No. 5 Georgia (10-2. 6-2) with conference bragging rights on the line.
Of note, “College GameDay” also previewed the teams’ Oct. 19 meeting, with the crew unanimously picking Texas to win (before their 30-15 loss). Will that be any different during conference championship weekend?
Regardless, if Steve Sarkisian and Co. can avenge their earlier loss this season, the Longhorns not only will have the SEC championship in tow, but also the coveted first-round College Football Playoff bye that comes with it.
Here’s who the “College GameDay” crew, including celebrity guest-picker Timothée Chalamet, picked to win the game:
