World No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler has withdrawn from the PGA Tour’s 2025 season-opening tournament after he punctured his hand while preparing Christmas dinner.
Yes, that actually happened.
Scheffler suffered a puncture wound to the palm of his right hand from broken glass while he was at home in Dallas, Texas celebrating the holiday with his family.
His manager, Blake Smith, said Friday that small glass fragments remained in the palm, necessitating surgery to prevent further complications.
“On Christmas Day while preparing dinner, Scottie sustained a puncture wound to the palm of his right hand from a broken glass,” Smith said, according to multiple reports.
“Small glass fragments remained in the palm which required surgery.”
Scheffler will therefore miss The Sentry, which is taking place in Hawaii from Jan. 2-5.
He’s expected to make a full recovery in three-to-four weeks and aiming to return for The American Express tournament on Jan. 16 at La Quinta, California, according to Smith.
Smith conveyed optimism about Scheffler’s recovery timeline, stating that he should be back to 100 percent after the recovery process.
He’ll look to defend his Masters title after winning it a second time last year.
