When Victor Wembanyama entered the NBA, fans didn’t really know what to expect. The generational prospect was supposed to be the franchise savior for the San Antonio Spurs, and after a dominating rookie season, the league was left with more questions than answers.
Ushered in as a “generational” talent, Wembanyama is expected to rival Michael Jordan and LeBron James as one of the best players of all time. After 107 career games, Wembanyama is averaging 22.4 points, 10.7 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 1.2 steals and 2.7 blocks. For good measure, he is shooting 33.8% from 3-point range on high volume, with his shooting numbers improving as the season goes on.
While he has his fair share of critics, the general consensus around the league is that the world has never seen a player quite like him, and speculation is running wild about the mark he can leave on the sport.
With the sky being the limit, Patrick Bet-David asked Scottie Pippen on the “PBD Podcast” which records Wembanyama can break. Pippen is one of the best two-way players of all time and is a six-time champion, so he is more than qualified to offer his opinion.
Pippen was doubtful that Wembanyama could record a quadruple-double in his career, but is certain he can break an even more improbable record: Wilt Chamberlain’s mark of 100 points in a single game.
“I think that Wemby would be the guy, if it could happen, because of his size, he can shorten up the court,” said Pippen about Chamberlain’s 100-point record on Sunday.
Since Wilt scored 100 in 1962, the closest anyone has come was Kobe Bryant, with 81 points.
In November, Wembanyama set a career-high with 50 points, and at only 21 years old, it’s not crazy to think he will have some of the best individual games in NBA history.
