SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) – The Savannah-Chatham County Public School System is implementing a new admission requirement for sports events beginning Thursday, Sept. 12.
The school system says they are striving to provide a safe environment for athletes, fans, and coaches. They are implementing a new admission requirement for all children under 15 years of age.
Beginning Thursday, all children under the age of 15 must have adult supervision for game entry.
They say all children under the age of 15 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian to enter any SCCPSS high school athletic contest.
SCCPSS says the provision will also include the following middle school athletic contests: football, track, and all playoff games.
Children entering a SCCPSS athletic contest are subject to age verification requirements. Age can be verified with a School ID with date of birth, State ID, Driver’s License, Driver’s Learner’s Permit, or a valid passport.
Identification will be verified by event staff prior to entering the security screening area.
SCCPSS says any child unable to provide identification when age verification is required may enter the game by purchasing a ticket and must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
Parents and legal guardians attending with their student must also purchase or have a game ticket for entry. This excludes SCCPSS staff who have their employee ID.
SCCPSS says signage will be placed in areas of high visibility to remind families of age requirements for entry.
