WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – The first day of the Sayaun Dent 2nd Annual Basketball Classic on Saturday.
Sayaun Dent who was a legendary basketball player at West Bladen High School passed last year after a car accident at the age of 23-years-old.
That’s why his mother and family created the Sayaun Dent Memorial Foundation in his honor.
The event was held at the Elizabethtown Middle School.
It highlighted team shooters in a 3-point contest.
One player in the tournament shared his fond memories of playing with Dent and said his heroics on the court were only part of what made him so great.
“On the court, Say (Sayaun) was different man. All American Say won a natty at Sandhills. I remember playing against him and he would easily get 25-30 against.. very much respect for him,” said Josh Bell.
The tourney continues tomorrow with a tipoff at 12:30 p.m.
