COLLINS, Miss. (WDAM) – The Covington County Chamber of Commerce is hosing an annual campaign to encourage people to shop local merchants for the holiday season.
It’s called, “Santa Shops Covington County First” and it begins Thursday and wraps up Tuesday.
As part of the campaign, participating businesses offer incentives to get shoppers to spend money in Covington County.
“When they purchase something from one of the participating merchants, then they sign up, put it in (the merchants’) gift box and then the merchant draws on the 26th of November and they give a prize away to the customer who wins,” said Marie Shoemake, Covington County Chamber of Commerce executive director.
“After that, their name goes back into the big box and on the night of the Collins Christmas parade (Dec. 5), we draw for Chamber Dollars, of $500, $300 and $100, and that money is to be spent with participating merchants prior to December 24th.”
Thirty-eight merchants are participating in this year’s campaign,” Shoemake said.
