A big week for Rutgers saw its football program (finally) hire a defensive coordinator and its basketball get a big home win.
Two months to the day after former Scarlet Knights defensive coordinator Joe Harasymiak accepted the head coach at UMass, the Scarlet Knights hired his replacement, bringing back his predecessor Robb Smith to retake the reigns. He will be accompanied by James Madison linebackers coach Zach Sparber, a rising star in the coaching profession, as a co-defensive coordinator.
On Wednesday, Rutgers basketball defeated No. 23 Illinois thanks to the return of star freshman Dylan Harper, who recovered from a high ankle sprain in time to lead his team to its first victory over a ranked opponent this season.
The Rutgers Rant is back to discuss Greg Schiano’s defensive coordinator hire, what the win means for Steve Pikiell’s team and how much of a difference having Harper makes for the Scarlet Knights. We break down their chances of reaching the NCAA Tournament and look ahead to a matchup against Maryland on Super Bowl Sunday.
And, of course, we answer the questions submitted by our listeners.
