Scenes from Rutgers football’s Senior Day walk
Rutgers football has added some solid Big Ten talent to its secondary.
The program announced on Wednesday that it signed Penn State transfer cornerback Cam Miller, the latest addition to a revamped defense heading into the 2025 season.
The 6-foot, 183-pound Miller, a native of Fernandina Beach in Florida, entered the transfer portal earlier this week. He has one year of eligibility remaining.
Miller had 27 tackles with five pass breakups in 16 games this season, including four starts.
In three seasons with the Nittany Lions, Miller had 56 tackles (8 for loss) with four sacks, one interception and nine pass deflections.
Miller almost certainly projects to start for the Scarlet Knights, who are coming off a 7-6 season following a loss to Kansas State in the Rate Bowl.
Rutgers actually recruited Miller out of high school – he was a four-star recruit out of Trinity Christian Academy in Jacksonville – but he committed to Penn State as part of the 2022 recruiting class.
Now the Scarlet Knights have finally landed him.
It’s a good move for Rutgers’ secondary, which is losing cornerbacks Robert Longerbeam and Eric Rogers, among others.
The addition of Miller gives the Scarlet Knights a solid four-man rotation with returners Bo Mascoe and Al-Shadee Salaam, as well as Marshall transfer cornerback Jacobie Henderson.
Rutgers has flexibility and can move players around – it also has added considerable speed.
How the Scarlet Knights deploys their weapons will be up to the new defensive coordinator, whomever that will be as coach Greg Schiano continues his search to replace Joe Harasymiak, now the head coach at the University of Massachusetts.
In addition to Miller, Rutgers has also added to its defense with Ohio defensive end Bradley Weaver, James Madison defensive end Eric O’Neill, South Florida transfer defensive tackle Doug Blue-Eli and JMU transfer defensive tackle Darold DeNgohe, in addition to Henderson.
