The Pittsburgh Steelers under Russell Wilson, look like a formidable offense. In the two games that Wilson has started, the Steelers are averaging 31 points per game and have two performances where they racked up more than 400 yards of offense.

However, not everyone is buying what the Steelers are selling. Specifically, some still do not believe that Wilson has proven to be an upgrade over what the Steelers were getting out of Justin Fields.

Former NFL quarterback and MVP Cam Newton talked about his skepticism. He wants to see the Steelers against better teams, even if the Jets and Giants have solid defenses, before buying into the hype that Wilson has for himself now.

“I’m still skeptical. I’m not saying Russell Wilson has not been playing good football. He’s just been playing good football versus inadequate teams,” Newton said. “I’m not giving excuses. All I’m saying is you better win the games that you’re supposed to win. Russell Wilson and the Pittsburgh Steelers were supposed to win these games. You ain’t showing me nothing any different than what Justin Fields could’ve done.”

Wilson has shown to be solid in his first two games, turning the ball over just once in his two starts. The Steelers’ offense, especially their passing game down the field, has suddenly opened up with Wilson at the helm, too.

Whether it is legit remains to be seen, but the Steelers look improved through two games. The Washington Commanders and Baltimore Ravens rank towards the bottom in most defensive metrics. So, the Steelers should be able to keep up their offensive surge in their first two games following the bye week.
