Jared McCain has had a busy summer. After getting drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers, he’s continued his side gig in the media, most recently doing a show on YouTube about house hunting (he did this with former Duke teammate Kyle Filipowski).
He also played in Summer League which was an up-and-down experience as it is for many rookies.
Things are getting real now though – NBA teams are in training camp and rookies are busy learning their craft.
As we saw at Duke, McCain has an infectious charisma. This has not gone unnoticed by his teammates, like for instance, Joel Embiid.
Embiid really likes what he’s seen from McCain so far: “He’s tough. He competes. Great shot maker. He’s been shooting the ball extremely well. Great energy. I think he has a pretty good chance. I don’t want to put the expectations out there, but I kind of-I got to see more, but so far, he’s been, it’s been good just, you know, great personality…Seems to always be smiling for no reason.”
That’s pretty hilarious, really. McCain’s charisma can be sneaky, but it’s effective. Next test: the notoriously fickle Philadelphia fans.
