Rohan Bopanna of India and Matthew Ebden of Australia concluded their partnership with a victory in their final group match at the ATP Finals in Turin. The duo defeated Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz 7-5, 6-7(6), 10-7 on Friday.
Despite being eliminated from semifinal contention after their first two group stage matches, Bopanna and Ebden finished their season on a high note.
The match was characterized by strong serving from both teams, with Bopanna and Ebden saving all five break points they faced.
After splitting the first two sets, the match was decided by a Match Tie-break. Bopanna and Ebden raced out to an early lead and held on for the win.
“We’re really happy to finish the year off with a win, especially after a tough week,” Ebden said.
“It was a great match, very close,” Bopanna said.
“We had our chances in the second set, but we’re happy to get the win in the end.”
With the win, Bopanna and Ebden evened their ATP Head2Head series with Krawietz and Puetz at 2-2.
“Rohan and Matthew are a great team,” Krawietz said.
“They played very well today and deserved to win.”
Krawietz and Puetz will advance to the semifinals despite the loss.
The German pair will finish either first or second in the Bob Bryan Group depending on the outcome of the later match between Marcelo Arevalo/Mate Pavic and Simone Bolelli/Andrea Vavassori.
