ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – Rockford University will make history as one of the first schools in Illinois to play in a women’s collegiate flag football game.
The game will kick off at 6:15 p.m. Saturday, March 8 at the Walter Payton Center, 1920 Football Dr., Lake Forest.
March 8 is also International Women’s Day and the game marks a significant milestone for women and girls in sports in Illinois.
Flag football was first introduced at the high school level in 2021. In 2024, Illinois became the ninth state to officially recognize girls flag football as a varsity sport.
In November of 2023, Rockford University agreed to participate in the historic game.
Although Saturday’s game is invite-only, Rockford University will be streaming the game on its website.
