Samajwadi Party’s Lok Sabha MP Priya Saroj’s father had denied reports of India cricketer Rinku Singh getting engaged to her daughter. However, he’s revealed that the cricketer’s family has sent marriage proposal which they are seriously considering.
As per a report in ABP Live, Priya’s father Tufani Saroj has said that Rinku’s family spoke with his elder son-in-law, currently in Aligarh working as CJM, regarding the marriage proposal.
Neither Rinku nor Priya have officially confirmed the development so far.
Rinku, a regular feature in India’s T20I setup, among the reserve players of the Rohit Sharma-led squad that won the world cup last year. He’s set to return to action with the upcoming five-match T20I series against England starting next week.
The 27-year-old has so far played two ODIs and 30 T20Is since making his international debut in August 2023. He has scored a combined 562 runs at the international level so far.
Known for his finishing skills, Rinku represents Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL and won the title with the franchise last season.
On the other hand, Priya is a first-time MP who represents Uttar Pradesh’s Macchlishahr constituency. She defeated BJP’s BP Saroj by over 35,000 votes last year.
Priya hails from a family of politicians with her father Tufani Saroj a three-time MP and currently MLA from Kerakat.
The 26-year-old studied law and initially wanted to become a judge rather than joining politics like her father.
“Though my father is a seasoned politician and has won Lok Sabha polls consistently between 1999 and 2014, I never thought of becoming a politician while growing up. After graduating in law, I started preparing for judgeship exams during the Covid-19 pandemic. Even when my ticket was announced, I was taking online classes for the exams,” Saroj told The Indian Express in an interview.
