ATP veteran Richard Gasquet will test the young gun from Argentina, Tomas Martin Etcheverry, in the first round of the 2024 European Open. Gasquet is one of few old statemen still competing on the ATP Tour. Despite playing in his late 30s, Gasquet continues to stay relevant by mixing up with young players and scoring upset wins from time to time. The Frenchman last played at Mouilleron le Captif Challenger, where he reached the second round before falling to Dino Prizmic 6-7(8) 7-5 6-3. Etcheverry has had a memorable trip in the Asian leg of the ATP Tour despite not going beyond the second round in Tokyo and Shanghai. The Argentine posted a gutsy 6-7(8) 7-5 6-3 victory over Botic Van De Zandschulp of the Netherlands and then almost upset world’s No.1 Jannik Sinner 6-7(3) 6-4 6-2 in the third round of the Shanghai Masters.
