Revisiting the match where 15-year-old Carlos Alcaraz took on a teenaged Jannik Sinner

Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner are going to have many top-quality duels as the pair continue to progress at the top of the ATP rankings.

Both players shared the four Grand Slam titles between them in 2024 and both look to have the potential to dominate the sport in years to come.

Sinner recently admitted that he had some regrets in 2024 but it’s fair to say that he couldn’t have seen things go much better than they did.

The Italian player won the Australian Open, US Open, ATP Finals and also sits comfortably at the top of the world rankings.

Alcaraz won the French Open and Wimbledon and he was also beaten in the Olympics final by Novak Djokovic and was forced to settle for silver.

Nick Kyrgios has admitted he’d quite like to face Alcaraz on the court this year as he returns to tennis.

However, all eyes will be on Alcaraz and Sinner and the chances of them meeting in the first slam of the year in Melbourne feel very strong.

What happened when Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner met as teenagers

Much like the matches the pair have played as men, there were some quite exquisite shots in this famous YouTube classic from 2019.

Sinner and Alcaraz came up against each other at a Challenger Event in Alicante and it proved to be a truly memorable match.

Alcaraz was 15, whilst Sinner was slightly older at 17 and the match was a real classic with some tremendous shotmaking.

It was the four-time Grand Slam champion Alcaraz who came out on top five years ago winning 6-2, 3-6, 6-3.

At 15 some of the shots he played were quite spectacular and even from watching this match it was easy to see that he had the game to go far in tennis.

Every time the pair seem to come up against each other things are relatively close and the matches are often a brilliant watch.

Both players give absolutely everything out on the court and the styles of play always seem to make for intriguing matches.

It would appear that these two are the undoubted future of tennis for the foreseeable and it will be exciting to see what classics the pair throw up in the years to come.
