One of the top NBA insiders in sports media is reportedly on the verge of becoming a free agent.
According to Ryan Glasspiegel of the New York Post, Shams Charania has left Stadium after working at the outlet for the past six years. Also, it was noted that Charania’s contracts with The Athletic and FanDuel TV are coming up.
Glasspiegel stated that sources said “it remains up in the air” as to whether Charania will stay at either or both The Athletic and FanDuel TV, as contract negotiations are still ongoing.
During his tenure at Stadium, Charania hosted the weekly show Inside the Association and made regular appearances on the company’s daily show, The Rally. He also was the star of Stadium’s tentpole shows around the NBA draft and free agency, which typically drew large audiences across social media platforms. His content on Stadium drew sponsors like AT&T and State Farm.
Charania’s impending free agency comes at an interesting time, as the NBA media landscape is on the verge of a shift. The league has agreed to new media rights deals in 2025 with Amazon’s Prime Video and NBC, marking a return to the latter network for the first time in over two decades.
Both companies will be looking to build rosters of NBA media talent for studio programming and other content, so Charania would undoubtedly be at the top of their respective lists if he hits the open market.
