Rex Ryan said on Monday that he expects to speak with the Jets about their head coaching vacancy after the end of the regular season, but he reportedly wouldn’t be the first former NFL head coach to meet with the club.
Tom Pelissero of NFL Media reports that the Jets are set to interview Ron Rivera this week. Rivera was fired as the head coach in Washington in January 2024 and is currently not employed by a team, so the Jets are free to speak to him before the regular season is over.
The Jets have spoken to a number of General Manager candidates, but have not held any head coaching interviews since firing Robert Saleh five games into the season. Interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich has gone 2-9 since taking over.
Rivera was 26-40-1 with Washington and lost his only postseason game with the team. He was 76-63-1 during a run with the Panthers that featured a trip to Super Bowl 50 and ended with his firing 13 weeks into the 2019 season.
