GLACIER NATIONAL PARK,Montana (WAGM) – 21 County travelers visited three National Parks during a 10-day Holiday Vacations/WAGM trip to Montana, Wyoming and Utah. All this week Rene Cloukey has his travel diary of the trip.
Each and every day of our trip was a memory and as I have always said, Pictures do not do justice to beauty of this trip.
Day three of the trip began with a trip to Glacier National Park in the Northwest corner of Montana along the spine of the Rocky Mountains. The Park was established in May of 1910. Our group of over 40 travelers hopped into the historic Red Buses that have been in service since the mid 1930′s The buses also offer a roll back top providing unobstructed sightseeing. The drivers are called jammers because they could be heard jamming the gears when the buses had standard transmissions. The buses took us on a 50 mile trek through Logan’s Pass. The ride gave us a chance to see many of the 762 lakes and 175 mountains that make up Glacier National Park. Logans pass has an elevation of 6 thousand 646 feet. As you are climbing Logan’s pass you can see the mountain on one side of you and on the other side you look thousands of feet below you. There are 26 Glaciers in the park and the largest is Harrison Glacier. The tour guides gave us the history of the pass and of the park.
While it was a little chilly as we climbed the pass everyone bundled up and took in the true beauty of the day. Our tour ended with a lunch and then we boarded our tour bus to continue our journey to Great Falls Montana. Day four would be the day that we traveled to the Lewis and Clark museum and learned about their 8 thousand mile long track westward.
