Wang Yi, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs, met in Beijing with the envoys of the 10 ASEAN countries to China on Thursday. Wang stated that a series of serious online gambling and telecom fraud cases have recently occurred in the Thai-Myanmar border region, posing threats to and harming the vital interests of citizens from China and other countries. This issue requires heightened attention.
Wang expressed hope that the relevant countries would take responsibility and adopt strong measures to resolutely combat online gambling and telecom fraud, safeguard the safety of people’s lives and property, and ensure that criminals are brought to justice.
China is willing to strengthen bilateral and multilateral law enforcement and security cooperation with ASEAN countries to provide a safe environment for the free exchange of people from all nations and to maintain good order in regional interactions and cooperation, Wang said.
