MUSKEGON, MI – The Reeths-Puffer boys bowling team has been highly competitive in the O-K Green Conference this winter with a 7-3 record and several lopsided victories in the league play.
One of the top performers for the Rockets this season has been senior Quinn Alderink, who has put together a strong campaign in his final run as a prep bowler. Alderink gave up his hockey career in the eighth grade to pursue bowling and has improved exponentially with each passing season.
Alderink has hit a hot streak on the lanes recently, as he rolled a 216 in a win over Muskegon on Monday and added a 211 last week against Jension. He also recorded a 1,203 during a six-game series at the regional tune-up tournament this past Sunday.
The senior standout won the 2024 Rocket Invitational, placed sixth at the 2025 Fruitport Invitational and was 11th overall at the 2024 GMAA city tournament. He has placed inside the Top 20 in all three regional tournaments in his prep career and is a two-time all-conference selection.
“He started this bowling season fairly well, but struggled a little bit through the middle of the season,” said Reeths-Puffer head coach Craig Alderink. “He’s back on track now and has been rolling some nice scores as of late. He’s also a three-time all-conference selection in tennis and was an all-conference selection in baseball last year as well.”
The readers of MLive and the Muskegon Chronicle were impressed with Alderink’s continued improvement and strong senior season, as they rolled to the polls this past week in support of the Reeths-Puffer standout.
Alderink finished the week with more than 62 percent of the total votes cast to be named the Muskegon-area Winter Sports Star for the Class of 2025.
Fremont girls basketball standout Mia Clemence finished runner-up with more than 30 percent of the total votes this past week. Clemence is averaging 19.1 points, 9.4 rebounds, 4.5 assists and four steals per game this winter and set the school record for points in a game with 40 against Mason County Central and 3-pointers made in a season with 49. She also scored 34 points against Whitehall and registered a triple-double with 21 points, 15 rebounds and 11 steals against Manistee.
Fremont boys basketball standout Redick Powell finished third overall in the voting process. He is averaging 14.2 points, four rebounds and two steals per game this season for the Packers.
Reeths-Puffer hockey standout Ayden Hartzell was fourth overall in total votes. He currently has 26 goals (team-high) and 18 assists for 44 points (team-high) on the season.
North Muskegon boys basketball standout TJ Byard rounded out the Top 5 vote-getters this week. The senior athlete does a little bit of everything for the Norsemen this winter as he averages seven points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 3.9 steals per game.
