TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News)—Labor Day weekend in 2024 is expected to have record-breaking numbers compared to previous years.
Traveling within the U.S. is up 4% compared to 2023 and 2% cheaper.
One of Triple A’s top tips is to try to travel off-peak. That means traveling on days that aren’t expected to be busy, like Thursday and Tuesday.
Some of the most popular destinations this year include European cities and Alaskan cruises. For people who live in Arizona, Southern California is always a popular spot, or they can stay in the state and go to Lake Havasu. But this year, Florida and New York are also popular spots.
Some things to keep in mind: Try to avoid checking a bag at the airport in case there are baggage delays. If you’re driving, pack plenty of snacks and drinks and also have an emergency care kit in your car. With travel being so hectic lately, Triple-A says you should always have a plan B.
“If you are flying, make sure you have a plan when it comes to checking the apps to make sure your flight is on time,” a spokesperson for Triple-A Julian Paredes said. “If you are taking a road trip, make sure people know where you’re at so in case you do have a breakdown and they’re expecting you, they’ll know something is wrong.”
Friday and Monday will be the busiest days, so if you plan to leave on either of them, get out as early as you can or wait until rush hour finishes late at night.
And if you’re going to the airport, ensure you’re there at least two hours early.
