It’s finally here, fans: The 2024 NFL season kicks off tonight at 8:20 PM ET with a game between the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs and the AFC North champion Baltimore Ravens!
This one should be an absolute banger between two rival AFC contenders. The Chiefs need no introduction, as they’ve won back-to-back Super Bowls and are going for the first ever threepeat in NFL history. Patrick Mahomes is the best quarterback in the league and is on a path towards becoming the best in history. His weapons should, in theory, be better this year, with tight end Travis Kelce returning alongside wide receivers Rashee Rice and new additions Marquise Brown and Xavier Worthy. The defense lost star cornerback L’Jarius Sneed but retained defensive lineman Chris Jones, and should once again be among the NFL’s best overall units.
Meanwhile, the Ravens have brought back much of the team that led to an MVP campaign for Lamar Jackson in 2023. Baltimore will once again rely on tight end Mark Andrews and receiver Zay Flowers to move the ball through the air, while the ground game could see a significant boost from the addition of bruising running back Derrick Henry. The defense could see a boost from a pair of secondary additions in rookie cornerback Nate Wiggins and veteran safety Eddie Jackson.
This should be a hard-fought game and potential AFC Championship preview between two bitter postseason rivals. FanDuel has the Chiefs favored by just 3 points, suggesting a close contest. The game kicks off at 8:20 PM ET on NBC—unlike most Thursday Night Football games, which will be broadcast on Amazon Prime.
