HOUSTON – Jose Miguel Ramirez put up his best performance of the season to lead the Shockers to a fifth-place finish in the Bayou City Collegiate Classic at Westwood Golf Club on Tuesday afternoon.
The Shockers took home fifth place at three strokes under par as a team, with round scores of 290, 287, and 282.
Sam Houston State won the Invitational by a razor thin margin, finishing 27 strokes under par, just two ahead of second place Abilene Christian. Louisiana State individual competitor Noah McWilliams won the tournament crown in dramatic fashion, carding a birdie on the third playoff hole to take the title over Rice’s Lukas Boandle and Daniel Zou.
After a tough start in round one, the Shockers managed to find some balanced consistency in round two, led by Ramirez, who finished the day at four-under par, but the Shockers still found themselves sitting in eighth place on the leaderboard, unable to overcome a rough start.
In the final round, the Shocker lineup improved across the board, led again by Ramirez, who finished three under par for the round. Michael Winslow chimed in with a two-under performance, while Ty Adkins and Mitch Revie added a one-under and even-par round, respectively, to pull the Shockers up three spots to fifth place.
The performance for Ramirez is by far his best as a Shocker so far, setting new lows for 18- and 54-hole scores.
