Though an interim OC or play-caller isn’t yet known, Pelissero noted former Washington offensive coordinator Scott Turner, the current passing game coordinator, is a logical candidate. Las Vegas has its bye coming up, and just how different the squad will look when it faces the Miami Dolphins on Nov. 17 will be worth monitoring.
Earlier in the season, quarterback Gardner Minshew was benched as the starter in favor of Aidan O’Connell. O’Connell did little to improve the offense and suffered a thumb injury in Week 7, which ushered the return of Minshew to the starting lineup. As the Raiders are mired in a five-game losing streak, Getsy’s offense is last in giveaways (19), rushing yards per game (76.9) and yards per carry (3.5). Las Vegas’ paltry 280.2 yards per game are 29th in the league as the offense has registered 20 or fewer points in six of its nine games.
Minshew, a Pro Bowler for the first time with the Indianapolis Colts last season, is 28th in the NFL with an 80.2 passer rating. O’Connell is worse at 76.0.
However, it’s of note that Pierce’s defense has hardly been a unit the Raiders can hang their hat on. They’ve allowed north of 30 points four times this season, allowing a season-high 41 on Sunday.
Sunday’s news brings about the second firing for Getsy in the calendar year as he was dismissed in January as the Bears offensive coordinator.
