It has been confirmed when Rafael Nadal will commence training with his teammates for the Davis Cup finals, the final tournament of his career.
On October 10 the sporting world was left stunned when Nadal released a video announcing the decision to hang up his racket.
Nadal will bid farewell to tennis after November’s Davis Cup finals where he hopes to bow out by winning the team event for a sixth time.
He will exit the game after producing a stellar career which included 22 Grand Slam singles titles, 36 Masters 1000 crowns and two Olympic gold medals.
Before heading to Malaga for the last tournament of his career, Rafael Nadal will compete in the ‘Six Kings’ exhibition event in Saudi Arabia.
He will play on Thursday October 17 against either Carlos Alcaraz or Holger Rune, before competing again on Saturday.
According to Spanish news outlet Marca, Nadal will arrive in Malaga on November 14 to start training for his final event with teammates Pablo Carreño Busta and Roberto Bautista Agut.
Nadal’s Olympic doubles partner Alcaraz and Marcel Granollers, will not be present at his first Davis Cup training session, scheduled for November 15.
This is because the four-time Grand Slam winner will be competing in the ATP Finals while Granollers will feature in the doubles version of the event, which runs concurrently rom November 10 to 17.
The conclusion of the ATP Tour’s season-ending event comes just two days before the start of the Davis Cup finals, which will take place from November 19 to 24.
One of Nadal’s greatest career achievements is his exemplary record at the Davis Cup.
Since losing his very first singles Davis Cup match against Jiri Novak in 2004, Nadal has gone undefeated.
He has played a total of 30 Davis Cup matches in singles competition during his career, and has won the past 29.
Nadal also has a healthy Davis Cup doubles record. In the 12 matches he has contested alongside a teammate, he has eight wins and four defeats.
Fans would love to see Nadal team up with Alcaraz again, after the pair reached the Olympics quarter-finals in July.
