Queen Camilla joined King Charles III and other members of the British royal family for a state dinner honoring the Emir of Qatar at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday in London. The banquet was part of the official welcome to Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and Sheikha Jawaher bint Hamad bin Suhaim Al Thani as part of their tour of the U.K. The couple received a royal welcome from Kate Middleton and Prince William earlier during the day.

For the occasion, Queen Camilla favored formal attire while also supporting one of her go-to, London-based designers. The queen consort wore a red velvet gown with rounded shoulders courtesy of Fiona Clare, a designer Queen Camilla has worn on several occasions during her time as queen consort.

Along with her red velvet gown, ideal for the forthcoming holiday season, Queen Camilla wore a blue sash with the British royal family orders of King Charles III and Queen Elizabeth II. As for her jewelry, Queen Camilla went the sentimental route.

The queen consort wore the diamond Kokoshnik tiara, which previously belonged to her late mother-in-law, Queen Elizabeth II. She coordinated the tiara with a necklace from the late monarch’s vault, as well. The tiara previously belonged to Queen Alexandra and dates to the 1800s.

Princess Anne, King Charles III’s sister, was also in attendance at the event. She, too, wore a sentimental tiara featuring diamond and aquamarine jewels.

Since ascending to the throne alongside King Charles III, Queen Camilla has looked to the late Queen Elizabeth II’s jewelry vault for sentimental pieces of jewelry to wear on special occasions, honoring the United Kingdom’s longest-reigning monarch. Along with necklaces and tiaras, Queen Camilla has also worn brooches that once belonged to Queen Elizabeth II.

While the sentimental pieces act as an integral part of the appropriate attire for such royal occasions, Queen Camilla’s proclivity for the British royal family jewels demonstrates a reverence for the past and integration to the present.
