Doha, Qatar: The representation office of Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) in Yemen has launched a new health project to provide comprehensive health care services for the most vulnerable groups and enhance access to maternal and neonatal health services at several hospitals of Al Hudaydah, Taiz, and Sana’a.
The $926,700 project is co-funded by QRCS and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).
It focuses on isolated areas with alarming health conditions due to lack of medical resources, growing numbers of internally displaced people (IDPs), and limited access for most girls and women to basic reproductive health services in five districts.
To back their capacity, six medical facilities will be supported with medical supplies, operational expenses, and staff remunerations for one year.
Until the date of this report, the project has provided more than 38,741 free-of-charge medical services, varying from medical consultations and examinations to x-ray and medications. These also included basic reproductive health services such as obstetric care/emergency and C-section.
This project is part of a strategic partnership between QRCS and UNFPA, aimed at improving reproductive health services in Yemen and strengthening resilience and self-dependence of the health system and local communities, in the teeth of one of the most complicated humanitarian crises as described by the United Nations.
It adopts a two-folded relief approach that combines urgent humanitarian interventions with long-term development planning.
