January 5th, 2025 ― Doha, Qatar: The office of Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) in Sudan has completed a multi-specialization surgical convoy in Northern State, as part of four medical convoys launched on Qatar National Day, 18 December 2024.

In coordination with the Federal Ministry of Health (MOH) and Dongola Specialized Hospital, the medical delegation from Doha and the hospital’s medical team performed 250 pediatric, urology, and general surgeries.

The medical convoy helped provide treatment for poor displaced and local patients, as well as relieve pressure on the health system in Northern State, where such surgeries are much needed, according to statements by the state’s MOH.

Dr. Satti Hassan Satti, Director-General of Northern State MOH, said, “The health system is heavily in demand due to overpopulation. That is why such free, high-quality medical services are crucial for vulnerable groups”.

He commended the medical convoy as an invaluable support for the state.

“Through its humanitarian organizations, Qatar plays an active role in providing health services for the people of Sudan,” added Dr. Satti. “This surgical convoy represents one further step towards stronger collaboration between QRCS and Northern State’s MOH”.

Among the patients who benefited from the surgical convoy was Shadia (58), who said, “Having all my medical examinations done, I was told I needed a urology procedure. The biggest problem was that I could not afford it”.

Recalling her great happiness when the hospital contacted her for a free-of-charge operation, she thanked QRCS’s personnel for the assistance they give to the people of Sudan.

The surgeries were performed by a volunteering medical delegation from Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), which comprised Dr. Suhail Ahmed, consultant anesthesiologist, Dr. Ahmed Hayati Mohamed, consultant urologist, and Dr. Nader Ibrahim, consultant urologist. The local medical staff of Dongola Specialized Hospital were engaged in performing the surgeries.
