For the third consecutive year, Qatar recorded growth in purchases abroad of aromatic alcohols and their derivatives, which increased by 37% to 78 tons in 2024. Overall, imports showed significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2022 with an increase of 245% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2024 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.
In value terms, aromatic alcohols imports stood at $162K (IndexBox estimates) in 2024. In general, imports saw significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2022 when imports increased by 387% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2024 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.
In 2024, India (63 tons) constituted the largest supplier of aromatic alcohols to Qatar, accounting for a 81% share of total imports. Moreover, aromatic alcohols imports from India exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (10 tons), sixfold.
From 2014 to 2024, the average annual growth rate of volume from India amounted to +22.6%.
In value terms, India ($132K) constituted the largest supplier of aromatic alcohols and their derivatives to Qatar, comprising 81% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by China ($17K), with an 11% share of total imports.
From 2014 to 2024, the average annual growth rate of value from India amounted to +21.2%.
In 2024, the aromatic alcohols price stood at $2,076 per ton (CIF, Qatar), falling by -26.4% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a slight slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2022 when the average import price increased by 41% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $2,968 per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2024, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2024, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was India ($2,095 per ton), while the price for China stood at $1,686 per ton.
From 2014 to 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (-1.1%).
