Italian Jasmine Paolini, the No 4 seed, advanced to the last 16 of the Qatar Open by winning against French wildcard Caroline Garcia 6-3, 6-4 at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex in Doha on Tuesday afternoon.
Paolini, ranked No 4, will play the winner of the match between Russian Liudmila Samsonova, the No 16 seed, and Latvian Jelena Ostapenko next.
Garcia, ranked No 76, beat Chinese Yue Yuan (6-1, 7-6 (5)) in the previous round of the Qatar tournament.
