In 2024, imports of maize oil into Qatar contracted rapidly to 13K tons, waning by -29.1% against 2023 figures. In general, imports, however, posted a strong increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when imports increased by 177%. Imports peaked at 19K tons in 2021; however, from 2022 to 2024, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, maize oil imports reduced sharply to $19M (IndexBox estimates) in 2024. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 141%. Imports peaked at $32M in 2023, and then reduced rapidly in the following year.
the United States (3.2K tons), Hungary (3.2K tons) and South Africa (2.5K tons) were the main suppliers of maize oil imports to Qatar, together accounting for 70% of total imports.
From 2014 to 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by the United States (with a CAGR of +73.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Hungary ($4.8M), the United States ($3.9M) and South Africa ($3.6M) constituted the largest maize oil suppliers to Qatar, with a combined 66% share of total imports.

In value terms, refined maize (corn) oil ($12M) and crude maize (corn) oil ($7M) constituted the most imported types of maize oil in Qatar.
In 2024, the maize oil price stood at $1,450 per ton (CIF, Qatar), falling by -17.5% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a perceptible contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2022 an increase of 37% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $1,981 per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2024, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2024, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Oman ($2,553 per ton), while the price for the United States ($1,207 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
