Qatar strongly condemned the assassination of Hamas Political Bureau Chief Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, labeling it as a heinous crime, a dangerous escalation, and a blatant violation of international and humanitarian law.
Hamas announced on Wednesday morning that Ismail Haniyeh had been assassinated in the Iranian capital. Iranian news sources reported that Haniyeh and one of his bodyguards were killed when their residence in Tehran was attacked.
The Iranian Tasnim News Agency mentioned that an investigation into the incident is ongoing, with results to be disclosed soon. The Iranian Revolutionary Guard also issued a statement, saying they are assessing the circumstances surrounding Haniyeh’s death.
Haniyeh had arrived in Tehran on Tuesday to participate in the inauguration ceremony of Iran’s new President, Masoud Pezeshkian, and had met with both Pezeshkian and Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
