Qatar Airways has announced the resumption of flights to Abha, Saudi Arabia, beginning January 2, 2025. The airline will operate two weekly flights to Abha International Airport, marking its 11th destination in the Kingdom. Known for its stunning landscapes and rich cultural heritage, Abha will now be more accessible through Qatar Airways’ vast global network.
The new flights to Abha will provide travelers with greater convenience and direct access to Qatar Airways’ 170+ global destinations via Doha’s Hamad International Airport, recently named the “World’s Best Airport” by Skytrax in 2024.
In addition to Abha, Qatar Airways will also increase its service to NEOM, the futuristic city in northwestern Saudi Arabia, from two to four weekly flights during the winter season. NEOM, hailed as the “land of dreams,” offers a unique living experience that blends innovation with nature. This increase in flight frequency supports the growing demand for travel to the ambitious Red Sea project.
With more than 140 weekly flights to 11 Saudi cities, Qatar Airways reaffirms its commitment to connecting passengers to the Kingdom’s key destinations. In addition to Abha and NEOM, the airline also serves AlUla, Dammam, Jeddah, Medina, Qassim, Riyadh, Tabuk, Taif, and Yanbu.
Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer, expressed the airline’s dedication to expanding its operations in Saudi Arabia:
“We are proud to resume flights to Abha and increase frequencies to NEOM, further strengthening our presence in Saudi Arabia. This resumption is a testament to our commitment to connecting passengers to the Kingdom’s most sought-after destinations.”
Saudi Arabia’s Air Connectivity Program CEO, Majid Khan, also emphasized the importance of the expanded routes, saying:
“We are thrilled that the World’s Best Airline will resume direct flights to the beautiful Aseer region and Abha, as well as increase frequencies to NEOM, a futuristic city unlike any other. This development supports our strategy to showcase Saudi Arabia’s untapped tourism potential to the world.”
Additionally, Cluster 2 Airports Company CEO, Engr. Ali Masrahi, highlighted the role of direct flights in elevating the status of Saudi Arabia’s airports as part of the National Aviation Strategy.
Passengers traveling from Abha will have access to key global destinations, including Dubai, Manila, and Sharjah, through Qatar Airways’ hub at Hamad International Airport.
