Qatar Airways (QR), the flag carrier of the State of Qatar, remains one of the world’s most popular airlines with an ever-expanding fleet and wings across the rest of the world. Through its Hamad International Airport (DOH) base in Doha, the airline flies to over 100 countries across six continents and operates a mix of hundreds of Airbus as well as Boeing aircraft.
To ensure its smooth operation, QR hires over 5,000 cabin crew members from over 120 countries in the world which makes it a world-class airline and the pinnacle of luxury flying for most travelers. Qatar is a brilliant airline for the airline crews to work with but has not been immune to a fair share of controversy. That said, here is how much they earn and what other benefits they are entitled to.
Qatar Airways Cabin Crew Salary
Qatar Airways pays its cabin crew a decent salary and is one of the higher paying Asian countries for the job, especially ahead of its eastern Asian counterparts, which do not value those who lead their service as highly as they do to pilots, perhaps.
Anyways, the salary range at QR varies from QAR 4,000 per month (approx. USD 1,100) to QAR 16,000 per month (approx. USD 4,400).
This is the basic salary component and the cabin crew is paid over and above the sum depending on how many flying hours they operate. Those who are rostered on shorter haul flights tend to earn roughly USD 2,000 more per month while those on ultra-long haul flights can expect to earn as much as USD 5,000 extra per month.
The contracts with Qatar Airways are signed for a two-year duration, following which the salary as well as the hierarchy of the cabin crew members within the airline is re-evaluated.
The base salary of the cabin crew is largely dependent on their experience as well as their status level, such as cabin crew, purser, cabin crew manager, etc.
All the cabin crew members employed by Qatar Airways are required to be based in the city of Doha with the airline willing to bear their visa and relocation expenses.

Their apartments have recreational facilities, and exceptional security and are located within close proximity of the Hamad International Airport from where the carrier’s flights originate and terminate.

This ensures that the flight attendants are fully covered in case of accidents or illnesses in Doha or elsewhere on their travels, hence nullifying the pressure of medical expenditure overseas.
TRANSPORTATION – Qatar Airways provides company transportation to its crew when on duty. There are shuttle services operating from their accommodation to and from the airport in Doha, as well as at their destination before and after a flight. Unlike for pilots, there is no fixed allowance for transportation provided in cash.

This equips them to pursue jobs elsewhere in the world as well as in industries different from aviation, such as customer service and hospitality, in which the airline provides specialized training in too.

Some Drawbacks
While working for Qatar Airways from the outset seems like a brilliant opportunity and one that’s possibly too good to turn down, there has been widespread criticism of some of the policies that the airline has followed over recent years. Some concerns that have been relayed by existing or past crew members are as follows.
There are an increasing number of intricate rules that the airline introduces or amends every now and then without providing proper notice to the cabin crew. They are penalized for each minor breach and those who have been with the airline for a long time also struggle to grasp the same.
A lack of privacy has been a common cause of concern too. Cabin crew accommodation (public areas) have cameras installed nearly everywhere, while there are also curfews for cabin crew, who must be inside their apartments before and after a certain time of the day. It is mandatory for a crew member to live in the accommodation provided by the airline and requests to live independently are considered on a case-by-case basis only, in a rather tedious process.
Past cabin crew members have even reported about a lack of job security as employment has been directly terminated for basic reasons like using mobile phones on duty and taking pictures in uniforms. As per their contracts, QR crew members are also prohibited from being married due to productivity reasons and must resign before doing so.
