Purdue football added a transfer receiver with power conference experience and ties to some of the Boilermakers’ other incoming personnel.
Chauncey Magwood played 16 games with Central Florida over the past two seasons, totaling 142 yards on nine receptions. On3 first reported Magwood’s signing.
Magwood is the second receiver added via the transfer portal, joining former USC receiver Charles Ross. Like Ross, who played with incoming Purdue offensive coordinator Josh Henson, Magwood knows some of the other incoming Boilermakers. He played with EJ Colson at UCF, where new Purdue QBs coach Darin Hinshaw was offensive coordinator.
Magwood began his career at Kentucky, totaling 121 yards and a touchdown on eight receptions. The 6-0, 180-pound Georgia native was a three-star prospect ranked No. 537 overall in the 2021 class, per the 247Sports Composite.
While Purdue needs help everywhere, it badly needed skill and depth additions at receiver. Most of last season’s top wide receivers moved on, with Jahmal Edrine (Virginia), Jaron Tibbs (Kansas State), Leland Smith (San Jose State) all departing via the transfer portal. CJ Smith remains uncommitted in the portal.
