This year’s edition of the Trophée des Champions, to be contested between current holders Paris Saint-Germain and AS Monaco, could be held in Qatar in January, according to a report from RMC Sport.
Last year, the match, which is ordinarily supposed to take place before the start of the league season, was heavily delayed. The match, which saw PSG take on Toulouse FC, was won by the former at the Parc des Princes in January. Like last year, this year’s edition of the game, which sees the winner of Ligue 1 and the winner of the Coupe de France face each other in a one-off match, has been delayed.
The match was meant to be played in China, however, due to diplomatic reasons, that option fell through at a relatively advanced stage. The hypothesis of playing it at the Stade Louis II in Monaco was also touted but that piste was abandoned. The Trophée des Champions has, since the announcement of the postponement back in July, not had a new date or venue set.
RMC Sport now understands that the fixture could take place in Doha, Qatar, whilst a date in early January, the same as last year, has been touted. Talks between the LFP and Qatar are ongoing.
