The Pratt High School girls’ golf team recently ended their season at the 2024 4A State Tournament. The team was able to keep the tradition of sending the whole squad to the state tournament, and a few girls were able to make it to the second day of competition.
This year, the state tournament was held in Hesston for 4A. The first day of action was on Monday, October 21, when all the Lady Greenbacks competed. They were met with some adversity, however, as inclement weather delayed the tournament. This happened when seniors Anastin Teasley and Lexi Blasi still had a few holes left to play.
This didn’t affect them negatively, as they were able to close out their rounds with some solid first-day scores (Blasi – +18, Teasley – +25). For Teasley and Blasi, they placed high enough after the first round to qualify for the second day of the tournament. Unfortunately, golfers Hayden Riffey, Rio Sanchez, Rayden Crow, and Ava Simmons concluded their seasons after the first round.
Riffey and Crow finished with the same score, which was a +48, which meant that they placed seventy-fourth and seventy-fifth respectively after the first round. Simmons was next, and she shot a +49 that gave her a seventy-ninth place finish. Rounding out the Lady Greenbacks was Sanchez with a +69 in ninety-first place.
Day two of action was the following Tuesday, when Teasley and Blasi had a chance to place in the top 20 and receive medals. After a hard fought 18 holes of golf, Teasley with a +27, and Blasi claimed a +31. This meant that, overall, Blasi tied for twenty-sixth in the state tournament with a total score of 191, and Teasley tied for thirty-first place with a total score of 194.
Although they were hoping to walk away from the state tournament with medals, these two competed very well throughout the entirety of the tournament, as well as the rest of the team. They fought through unfavorable conditions, and the always challenging mental aspect proved to be an obstacle they had to overcome.
The 2024 fall season for PHS girls’ golf was one filled with success and memories, as well as a great senior class that provided great leadership.
