Mangaluru: The department of posts, Mangaluru division, organised the ‘Sundays on Cycle Campaign‘ under the Fit India Mission. The chief postmaster general, Karnataka circle, Bengaluru, S Rajendra Kumar, inaugurated the campaign at the Mangaluru head post office.
The aim was to promote cycling as a healthy, sustainable mode of transport and to make fitness an integral part of our daily lives. It also sought to value the immense contribution of postmen in bridging the communication gap and connecting the nation.
More than 100 staff members of Mangaluru participated in this rally. The CPMG Karnataka circle encouraged the staff by pedalling himself, accompanied by M Sudhakara Mallya, Sr superintendent of post offices, Mangaluru division, Dinesha P, deputy superintendent of posts, Mangaluru, Srinath NB, senior postmaster, Mangaluru HO, and CP Harish, assistant superintendent, Mangaluru East sub division.
The rally began at the Mangaluru head post office, Pandeshwar, at 8am, covering a distance of 3km. It went through AB Shetty Circle, City Police Commissioner’s Office, State Bank, Town Hall, Clock Tower, University College, RTO, Corporation Bank Circle, and concluded at the head post office at 9am.
Rajendra Kumar said the department’s staff should remain committed to creating awareness of fitness and healthy living for a greener and fitter India. This campaign is intended to promote the habit of cycling, reduce the usage of motor vehicles, lower the consumption of fuels, and increase the fitness and longevity of human beings, he added.
