The interviews at the Scouting Combine apparently didn’t do Shedeur Sanders any favors. Though he’s not working out — choosing to throw at at his pro day instead — several reporters at the combine have said the word is that the gap between Sanders and top quarterback Cam Ward is widening.
And several prominent mock drafts the past couple days are reflecting that gap. Even having Sanders falling out of the first round entirely.
Several mock drafts that have been released over the past day have Sanders still on the board at the end of day one. This includes NFL media’s Lance Zierlein, Pro Football Focus’s Treor Sikkema, and Draft Wire’s Curt Popejoy.
In the Zierlein mock, he has the Browns trading back up into the bottom of the first round with the Washington Commander to get Sanders.
No player has been more mocked to the Raiders than Sanders this offseason. With some previous mock drafts even having them trade up to get him. And, to be fair, there are still several mock drafts that have Shedeur going to the Raiders at six or even in the top five.
There’s no question the Raiders must get a quarterback this offseason. They made a strong push to land Mattnew Stafford in a trade with the Rams before Stafford ultimately opted to stay in LA. But with what seems to be a underwhelming opinion of Sanders, they would be smart to turn their efforts to free agency to find their next quarterback. If for no other reason than avoiding what might be considered a reach for Sanders at six overall.
