Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, met in New Delhi on Tuesday and condemned terrorism in all forms, including cross-border attacks. They agreed to work together through bilateral and multilateral efforts to address the issue.

A joint statement issued after their talks said India and Qatar emphasised the importance of dialogue and diplomacy in resolving international disputes. The statement described the Emir’s two-day state visit as a reaffirmation of ties between the two countries and expressed confidence that cooperation would continue to expand.

“The two leaders unequivocally condemned terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, including cross-border terrorism, and agreed to cooperate in combating this menace through bilateral and multilateral mechanisms,” the statement said.

Both sides agreed to increase cooperation in sharing information and intelligence, developing and exchanging expertise, and strengthening efforts in law enforcement, anti-money laundering, drug trafficking, cybercrime, and other transnational crimes.

The discussions also covered cybersecurity, including efforts to prevent the use of cyberspace for terrorism, radicalisation, and social unrest.

The visit focused on increasing bilateral trade by 2030. Both countries agreed to explore a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) to improve trade and market access.

Qatar’s Investment Authority (QIA) will open an office in India, signalling greater confidence in India’s economy. The Joint Working Group on Trade and Commerce was upgraded to a Joint Commission to establish a more structured approach to commercial relations. India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) will be introduced in Qatar, easing financial transactions and boosting economic integration.

Security cooperation was also discussed. Both leaders condemned all forms of terrorism, including cross-border terrorism. They agreed to enhance intelligence sharing, address cyber threats, and tackle transnational crimes through both multilateral and bilateral efforts.

In energy, both sides committed to increasing LNG trade and investment in energy infrastructure. The Joint Task Force on Energy will meet regularly to identify new opportunities.

Earlier in the day, PM Modi and the Emir held talks on trade, investment, technology, energy, and people-to-people ties. The Ministry of External Affairs said they also exchanged views on regional and global issues of common interest.
