Photos: El Monte police play Santa’s helpers for a day, for ‘Shop with a Cop’

El Monte police spread some holiday cheer on Monday, escorting children on a shopping spree.
The Shop with a Cop was organized through the El Monte Police Officers Foundation. Foundation organizers designed the event to build stronger bonds between law enforcement and underprivileged children.
The day began at the Police Department. A police process followed to the nearby Target story.
Children got to choose gifts for themselves from their holiday wish list and for their families.
Then, officers and children enjoyed a festive lunch together.
The Police Department and the foundation partnered with the school district, local churches, youth organizations, and social service organizations to help identify area families with the greatest need.
