Tony Finau to LIV Golf? Not so fast.
The 6-time PGA Tour-winner shut down rumors and speculation that he would be the latest big star to leave for the Saudi-backed international tour this week.
Whispers had intensified after Finau withdrew from this week’s Hero World Challenge, but the 35-year-old clarified that a knee injury was the reason for pulling out of Tiger Woods’ event in the Bahamas.
Finau, who finished the season No. 26 in the world and is one of the best players on tour without a major championship, added that there is no validity to the rumors that he is negotiating with LIV.
“They’re not true. I’m more than happy where I’m at on the PGA Tour and looking forward to 2025,” Finau told Golfweek. “When I tee it up in Maui, it will all go away, so, I don’t worry about it one bit.”
Finau has not yet entered the Sentry at the Plantation Course at Kapalua, which kicks off the 2025 PGA Tour season in January. But his statement seems to indicate he will at some point during the Tour’s traditional opening West Coast Swing.
He is currently scheduled to compete in the Grant Thornton Invitational Dec. 9-15, a team event with the LPGA where he is paired with superstar Nelly Korda.
Finau has long been at the center of LIV rumors, especially after his close friend Jon Rahm shockingly joined the rival circuit.
LIV Golf boasts an impressive roster of players like Rahm, Brooks Koepka, Bryson DeChambeau, Dustin Johnson, Cameron Smith, Patrick Reed, Phil Mickelson and others.
