OWENSBORO, Ky. – Ditte Petersen (Dianalund, Denmark/Sorø Akademi Skole) had one of the best rounds in Gannon women’s golf history as the Golden Knights moved into second place on the first day of the Kentucky Wesleyan Invitational.
Director of Golf Scott Stano‘s team is playing in the finale of the fall season as it heads into the final round on Sunday at The Pearl Cub.
Petersen carded a 3-under-par 69 to take a four-shot lead in the individual race. She had three birdies and 15 pars while posting a 2-under 34 on the front nine and a 1-under 35 on the back.
Her score was the second lowest in Gannon women’s golf history. Petersen set the Gannon record last season with a 4-under-par 68.
As a team, Gannon posted a score of 20-over-par 308. The Knights trail first-place Maryville (302) by six shots.
Sophomore Cloe Mateo (Sabadell, Spain/Montcau la Mola) added a 6-over 78 for Gannon to move into 10th place. Freshman Alexandria LeCureux (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston) was next with a 7-over 79. Senior Andrea Martinez (Tarragona, Spain/Col·legi Vedruna Sagrat Cor) rounded out Gannon’s first-round scoring with an 82.
The tournament concludes on Sunday with 18 holes.
