Bafana Bafana forward Percy Tau will likely play his first match for Qatar SC on Friday when the club face Al Nasr from the United Arab Emirates in the Qatari-Emirati Super Cup.
Tau was among the squad that left Doha on Wednesday for Dubai ahead of the match set to take place at the Al-Maktoum Stadium in the same city.
The South African international completed his move to Qatar SC on Monday, having signed a six-month contract that has the option to extend for two years, if the club survives relegation.
Tau will hope to be involved from the start having had to endure spells on the bench at Egyptian giants Al Ahly this season before he left for pastures new at the Doha-based club.
“The Qatar SC delegation includes a delegation consisting of Mr Khalid Al Kaabi, Vice President of the Club, Mr Abdulrahman Al Malki, Club Manager, and Mr Khalid Al Kuwari, Media Officer, in addition to the technical, administrative and medical staff and players. Our team finished its training in Doha today [Tuesday] amidst great seriousness and full focus from everyone in preparation for the match,” Qatar SC said while looking forward to the match.
Qatar SC are hoping for some respite in the competition given they are second from bottom in the 12-team Qatar Stars League and badly need to start winning to retain their top flight status, one of the main reasons they have signed Tau.
Tau will also look to impress from the start to endear himself to the supporters as he looks to help his new team achieve its objectives in the second half of the season.
Qatar SC will face Al Nasr for the Super Cup, a day before Al Sadd meet Al Wasl in Doha for the coveted Super Shield.
The final Qatar-UAE Super Cup match will feature Al Wakrah against Al Wahda with both teams vying for the Challenge Cup in Abu Dhabi on Sunday.
