Watch a post-Super Bowl proposal happen in the streets of Philadelphia
Philadelphian Lo O’Neil proposed to Chelsea Brown in the hours after the Eagles won the 2025 Super Bowl.
Gamblers in Pennsylvania went in big on Super Bowl 59 and were collectively rewarded for their wagers, as smart money overwhelmed Pennsylvania’s legal books, resulting in a negative take.
A majority of the bets were placed on the Eagles to defeat the Chiefs in the 2025 Super Bowl.
According to the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board, $101,548,073 in bets were placed on Super Bowl 59 at both online and retail sportsbooks.
That is the most Pennsylvanians have ever wagered on a Super Bowl.
In comparison, Pennsylvania gamblers bet $71,554,099 on the 2024 Super Bowl between the Chiefs and San Fransisco 49ers.
Gamblers in Pennsylvania also placed $84,313,189 in bets on the 2023 Super Bowl, which was the first title matchup between the Eagles and Kansas City.
It could be argued that Pennsylvania’s sportsbooks weren’t prepared for the flood of Eagles’ money.
“At the same time, patrons overwhelmingly placed winning wagers resulting in negative revenue for the sports wagering operators of $6,532,147,” read a press release from the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board. “The board noted in particular a high percentage of wagers placed on the Eagles to win.
“The Eagles defeated the Chiefs 40-22.”
