MONTGOMERY, Texas – Preston Paulk shot two-under par to lead the Southeastern Louisiana University men’s golf team on the opening day of the Bentwater Intercollegiate Monday at the Bentwater Yacht and Country Club.
 
After carding a two-under par 282 in the opening round, the Lions followed up with a six-over par 290 to finish the day in sixth place (+4). Tournament host Sam Houston State is the day one leader at 13-under par over 36 holes.
 
Paulk carded a 68 over the first 18 holes, before finishing the day with a 73 to sit in a tie for 12^th place in the individual standings. Griffin Dorr shot even par for the Lions Monday and heads into the final round in a tie for 20^th.
 
Southeastern freshman Viggo Hed will have some work to do Tuesday to continue his streak of finishing under par in each tournament, as he currently sits at four-over par and is tied for 41^st. Patrick Blaum (+7, T60^th) and Colby Sullivan (+10, 69^th) rounded out the SLU starting five. Abilene Christian’s Preston Cooper (-5) holds the individual lead after the opening two rounds.
 
Tuesday’s final round will tee off at 8 a.m. The Lions will be paired with Southland Conference rivals UIW and HCU for the final round. Live scoring, provided by host SHSU, will be accessible via the golf schedule page at www.LionSports.net.
