Two members of the New England Patriots’ rookie class are set to open training camp on the sidelines.
The organization moved running back Terrell Jennings to the physically unable to perform list and linebacker Jontrey Hunter to the non-football injury list on Friday, according to the NFL transaction wire.
Both undrafted free agents continue to count on the active roster while awaiting clearance. Both are eligible to begin practicing at any point in the summer prior to the league’s cutdown from 90 to 53 players.
Jennings, 23, signed with New England after participating in rookie minicamp on a tryout basis. The Florida A&M product finished his collegiate career with 381 carries for 1,754 yards and 24 touchdowns across 45 games. As a graduate student last fall, the 6-foot, 217-pound Jennings logged 733 yards and 10 touchdowns from scrimmage for the Rattlers through 127 offensive touches.
Hunter, 24, agreed to terms following the 2024 draft after spending six years at Georgia State. The 6-foot-2, 234-pounder amassed 96 tackles during his final campaign on the way to earning third-team All-Sun Belt Conference honors as well as invitations to the Reese’s Senior Bowl and NFL Scouting Combine. From outside linebacker to inside linebacker, Hunter’s Panthers tenure spanned 53 appearances. He totaled 234 tackles, six sacks, three interceptions, seven forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries altogether.
Rookies reported to Gillette Stadium on Friday. Veterans will follow on Tuesday, with the first practice scheduled for Wednesday at 11 a.m. ET.
