Patrick Mouratoglou is very impressed with what Jannik Sinner brings to a tennis court.
The Italian has enjoyed a phenomenal 2024 season which may go down as one of the best individual campaigns of all time.
The 23-year-old has won two seven tiles, two of which are Grand Slams and has claimed 65 wins and lost just seven matches.
Jannik Sinner has vastly improved his game over the last year and his healthy lead at the top of the ATP Tour rankings as World number one is nothing short of spectacular.
Over the past year those within the tennis world have praised Sinner for his consistency from the baseline and powerful ball striking.
Another reason for Sinner’s success is his improved serve, and his movement allows him to track down plenty of balls and turn defence into attack.
During a conversation with Tennis365 ahead of UTS London, Patrick Mouratoglou discussed what he likes most of Sinner’s game and what makes him so difficult to beat.
“Sinner is a machine. He does less things and at the moment he’s trying to add new weapons to his game. He’s not as good as Carlos in many fields but what he does, he does is unbelievable.
“Taking time away from the opponent, taking the ball early, hitting the ball incredibly hard, with so much security because he doesn’t miss and movement is amazing, that’s crazy.”
In the same conversation, Mouratoglou spoke about the game of Carlos Alcaraz, who is up there with Sinner as the game’s two best players after the ‘Big 3’ era of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic.
His electrifying shot making and elite athleticism has left fans in awe and has earned him four Grand Slam titles. His style is different to Sinner, which makes their matches so intriguing, and Mouratoglou also spoke on a possible weakness in the Spaniard’s game.
“Carlos can do anything. Everything he does he does it perfectly. Forehand is unbelievable, backhand, I don’t see any weakness in that backhand,” the Frenchman added.
“He can play flat, slice, his drop shots are incredible, his net play is incredible, he can serve and volley, he serves incredibly well for a guy of his height and physically he’s a beast.
“If you look at the package, it’s unbelievable, he almost has too many choices and sometimes he can lose his way, and he is super aggressive and he makes many more unforced errors than Sinner.
“That’s why those matches are so close because whenever Carlos drops a little bit, Sinner is always at the same level, from the start to the end.”
