A new report has revealed the best U.S. cities for jobs in 2025.
And one in Pennsylvania is ranked second on the final list.
Conducted and published by WalletHub, the report placed Pittsburgh in the second spot. The Steel City managed to score a silver after WalletHub researchers graded it (along with the rest of the cities on the list) across two key metrics — “Job Market” and “Socio-economics” — for which it received top marks.
“Pittsburgh … stands out because of the number of available jobs and the quality of its companies,” the report reads. “Pittsburgh has the most job opportunities per capita, along with the third-most full-time job opportunities per capita at companies rated 4.5+ stars on Glassdoor.
“The high-quality nature of jobs in Pittsburgh is evident by the fact that residents have the ninth-highest level of job satisfaction in the nation. In addition, jobs in Pittsburgh give good benefits. For example, the city has the fourth-highest percentage of workers with access to an employer-based retirement plan.”
Rounding out the top three cities was Columbia, Maryland, in third and Scottsdale, Arizona, in first.
“It’s important to look at more than just the number of jobs available or the unemployment rate when determining the best place to find employment,” states WalletHub analyst, Chip Lupo. “Quality matters just as much as quantity, from the average salaries and benefits to job security and overall satisfaction.
“There are plenty of secondary factors to take into account as well, from how easy a city makes commuting to jobs to whether it’s a good place for raising a family or engaging in recreational activities outside of work.”
Philadelphia, by the way — the only other city in Pennsylvania mentioned on the list — ranked 110th overall. For context, that’s out of a total of 182 cities.
